Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss - What Healthy Snacks Are Available?

Healthy snacks for weight loss!

Everyone loves to snack and just because you are on a diet it doesn't mean that you have to forego your daily snacking routine. Instead you need to find out what the best healthy snacks for weight loss are.

One way to start incorporating healthy snacks into your diet is to switch your current snack for a low fat version. This would include finding low fat muffins, fat free cheese and eating whole fruits instead of juices.

Some other great healthy snacks for weight loss include:

• Veggies with hummus
• Sliced fruit with low fat yogurt
• A handful of walnuts or almonds
• Low fat cottage cheese
• Air popped popcorn
• Hard boiled eggs
• Baked tortilla chips
• Salsa
• Fruit shakes or smoothies

Just changing to a healthier version of your favorite snack can save you calories over the long run. Take cut up veggies to work, so you can munch on them during the day.

This is great, especially if your workplace includes plenty of cookies and muffins being passed around. A single serving of a low fat yogurt is another portable handy snack to make use of.

Snacking is actually beneficial for you; it prevents you from binging on foods by becoming too hungry. Snacks are also the perfect way to bridge the gap between meals. If you are unsure if a snack is healthy read the label first.

Try to choose a snack which is less than 100 calories, and has a low fat content. This way you are not wasting your valuable calories on unhealthy choices. Try to make good nutritional choices, and aim to have each calorie which you consume, provide your body with a healthy nutrient.

Your snacking choices will be reflected by your children. If you eat high calorie, fatty snacks, they will follow your lead. Teach your children at a young age to eat low fat, healthy choices. This way you are setting them up to understand how to make healthy choices, before they too have a weight issue.

Once you begin making healthy choices you will develop new ideas for snacks. Being creative with your food is one way to keep your diet interesting. Repeatedly eating the same foods will have you making inappropriate choices very quickly.

Try a few new snack ideas first and stay with the ones that satisfy your cravings and your hunger. Before you know it, you will have your own list of healthy snacks for weight loss at your fingertips.

Low Calorie Snacks You Can Try

It is a myth that snacking means piling on those calories. In fact, eating healthy, low calorie snacks can stop you from binging or getting food cravings. You can snack and keep those calories in check with these tips.

Strawberries coated in dark chocolate make a great low calorie snack. Fresh fruit is always a good idea and dark chocolate has anti-oxidant properties. To make this tasty treat, just dip a handful of strawberries in a tablespoon of melted dark chocolate.

Apples with peanut butter make a delicious combination. Just chop up an apple, top with a tablespoon of peanut butter and you have a great low calorie snack ready. Apples are loaded with fiber and peanut butter has both protein and healthy monosaturated fat.

For a quick healthy snack, try vegetable sticks with any dip of your choice. As vegetable sticks you could try celery, pepper, carrot or even florets of broccoli. For a truly low calorie dip, combine a packet of Knorr's vegetable soup mix with a cup of low fat yoghurt.

Did you know that popcorn can actually be healthy? When those hunger pangs set in, try a bag of low-fat popcorn minus the butter, of course! Every serving of popcorn actually contains 5 grams of fiber.

You can turn a tuna sandwich into a low calorie snack with just a few modifications. Substitute the bread for a whole wheat pita pocket. Leave out the mayo and try low fat yoghurt dressing instead.

For an unusual but tasty snack, spoon about half a cup of salsa and two tablespoons of non-fat sour cream on top of a small, baked potato. The potato provides the fiber while the salsa has vitamin C.

Freeze about half a cup of orange juice and eat it like a sorbet. This snack is simply loaded with vitamin C.

Non-fat cottage cheese with some fresh blueberries added to it makes a great snack idea. The cottage cheese contains protein and calcium and the fresh fruit adds in the vitamins.

Soy chips with salsa are a great way to pack in protein. Soy is a complete protein and contains amino acids that are vital for your body. Make sure the chips are baked and not fried.

The ultimate low calorie snack is of course a green salad made of fresh leafy vegetables. Leafy vegetables have minerals and vitamins A and C. A salad is also a good source for fiber.

So use your imagination and whip up interesting ways to keep healthy.

8 "Best" Bedtime Snacks For a Healthy Weight Loss

8 Best Bedtime Snacks for a Healthy Weight Loss
It is a known fact that snacking before going to sleep is probably the worst time to eat. However, there are ways to fight your cravings in a beneficial way. Did you know that there are types of foods that actually help you sleep without overloading your digestive system? Eating or combining 1 or 2 of the foods that I have listed below an hour before bedtime will actually help to relax tense muscles and stress due to their sleep-inducing hormones (melatonin and serotonin).

• Chamomile Tea: The perfect antidote for restless minds due to its mild sedating effect.

• Warm milk: Milk also has a sedative quality in it (tryptophan), and calcium which helps the brain use tryptophan. Also, psychologically, milk reminds us of our childhood, when a warm bottle of milk meant "everything is OK".

• Honey: Honey is sweet, sweet is sugar, and sugar is a stimulant, right? WRONG! A couple teaspoons of honey in a glass of warm milk or herbal tea actually helps your brain shut down a nerve called orexin, which is linked to alertness.

• Oatmeal: Oatmeal is not only filling and low fat, it is also filled with melatonin (a natural sedative). Add a touch of honey to your blend, and start counting sheep.

• Bananas: Bananas are the ultimate sedative. I like to call them "sleeping peels", not only do they contain melatonin AND serotonin, they ALSO contain magnesium (a muscle relaxant).

• Whole Wheat Bread: Eating toast in combination with any other sleeping foods, like honey or tea, will release insulin, which in turn will convert itself into serotonin.

• Turkey: Why is it that after a Thanksgiving meal, most of the family ends up on the couch? Well, turkey has a sleep inducing quality that works best on an empty stomach. Add a couple slices of whole wheat bread with mustard, and say goodnight!

• Almonds: A handful of almonds will knock you straight-out. They are filled with magnesium ( a muscle relaxant) and help convert tryptophan into serotonin.

Hopefully this article has given you clarity about what types of foods actually help induce sleep, and what you should look for in foods before going to sleep.

4 Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss That Are Delicious and Nutritious

4 Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss That Are Delicious and Nutritious
When you're on a weight loss journey or plan you don't need to eat rabbit food, anyone who says you do hasn't met me or my methods. This is especially true when it comes to healthy snacks. This article outlines some of my personal favourite healthy snacks for weight loss, all of these are nutritious, delicious and don't take much time to prepare at all.

1. Cheesecake in a bowl

This is a personal favourite of mine. Take a tub of quark, some mixed nuts, desiccated coconut and 2-3 squares of (at least 70%) dark chocolate. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave while crushing the nuts into a bowl. Mix the melted chocolate with the quark then pour into the bowl. Enjoy - this is divine.

2. Protein balls

These little balls of joy are delicious and so easy to make. All you need is some oats (not quick oats), protein powder and some peanut butter. Use about 75-100 grams of oats with 1 to 2 scoops of protein powder, mix in a bowl then add a little water to get the mixture going. Add in a table spoon or two of peanut butter and mix together. Add a little bit more peanut butter at a time until you get the consistency right. Mould into small meatball size balls and leave in the fridge or on your counter to set, depending on how you'd like them. Enjoy these little bundles of healthy fats, protein and complex carbs.

3. Oatmeal protein pancakes

Another favourite and can be batched made and stored for use at a later stage. Combine 90 grams of oats with 1 scoop of protein powder and four egg whites, mix together and then pour onto a non stick frying pan, then cook off like a traditional pancake. These are delicious and are a great post workout snack. Try them with cinnamon or frozen fruit if you want that little bit of extra in them.

4. Apple slices and peanut butter

It doesn't get any easier than this. Simply dice up your favourite variety of apple into slices and then use 1 to 2 tablespoons of peanut butter as a dip. This snack is high in healthy fat and protein as well as healthy carbs from the apple. A quick easy delicious snack you can make in less than a minute.

There you have, these are some of my top healthy snacks for weight loss that you can make in 5 minutes or less. The beauty about these healthy snacks is that you can tweak them to suit your own needs, likes and dislikes. Healthy snacks for weight loss need not be complicated, it's just important to get creative.

The Best Diet Snacks for Weight Loss

The Best Diet Snacks for Weight Loss
When you are trying to lose weight, it is essential that you snack regularly on healthy, diet friendly snacks. It will help you to keep fuller between meals and eating regularly will help you to boost your metabolism while also regulating your blood sugar levels (less cravings).

It's best to combine these snacks into a meal plan that includes 6 small meals. When you do so, be sure to include foods from each food group to make a small and substantial snack that will help you lose weight faster and easier.

These snacks are the best for weight loss. Include one of each food group into a small meal for best results.

Veggie sticks

If you have a food processor, it is a good idea to make lots of veggie sticks at the beginning of the week and then store it in bags in the fridge. Some of the best veggies that you can process includes carrots, celery and cucumber. Olives, tomatoes and snap peas are also great choices to keep stock off.

Greek or fat free yogurt

While Greek yogurt are best for fat loss, any fat free or low fat yogurt will help you to speed up your weight loss process. Try to have yogurt everyday for best results. And make sure that both your morning and afternoon snacks includes at least one protein source, like fat free yogurt, a protein smoothie or some fat free cottage cheese.

Protein smoothies

A protein smoothie is great to have after a workout. Just grab some protein (whey) powder and mix with frozen fruit for a refreshing and yummy diet snack.

Fruit

It's a good idea to have a fruit with your morning and afternoon snack. But as fruit is high in sugar, it's best to limit yourself to 3-4 fruits a day.

Nuts

Nuts are some of the best weight loss snacks that there are. Their high fat contents (healthy fats), will keep you fuller for longer. Include 6-10 nuts with each of your morning and afternoon snacks. You can also have 10 pistachios with your evening snack; it's the best nut for weight loss.

Protein bars

Only turn to protein bars when you are on the go. When you are out shopping or at the movies or traveling, a healthy protein bar will help you to skip the popcorn or the unhealthy take-aways. Just make sure to check the ingredients of the protein bar and to choose wisely.

These are really the best diet snacks for weight loss. Choose a protein source, a carbs source and a fat source to have with your morning and afternoon snacks. And add a protein source to have with your evening snacks and you will lose weight safely and quickly.

What Are the Best Healthy Snacks For Weight Loss?

What Are the Best Healthy Snacks For Weight Loss?
Healthy snacks for weight loss are important to eat because research has found that by not snacking, your consumption of food will be greater at mealtime. In turn, you end up consuming more calories and fat than if you had snacked between meals. So, what are the other benefits of healthy snacking and what types of foods are actually 'healthy snacks?'

The main benefit to healthy snack eating is that you do not binge on other unhealthy foods to satisfy your overwhelming hunger. When you are suffering from hunger pangs, it is time for a healthy snack versus waiting for your next meal. Managing your hunger throughout the day is vital to proper eating and maintaining blood sugar levels. So, how do you know what to eat and when should you actually eat your snacks?

Whole grain foods are packed with fiber and carbohydrates, giving you an immediate energy boost that hangs around for the duration. Whole grain crackers and whole grain pretzels are great choices when seeking a whole grain snack. You can find other whole grain snacks in the organic and snack sections of your local grocery store.

Eating vegetables and fruits are healthy snacks for weight loss. They are full of vitamins and other nutrients, low in calories, fat free and incredibly healthy for you. Just don't make the mistake of eating a very healthy salad and then ruining it by adding way too much salad dressing.

Nuts and seeds are a fabulous way to snack. They are very rich in protein but beware because the calories can add up quickly if you do not proportion your snacking on them.

Low fat dairy items, including light yogurt and cheese made with skim milk are healthy ways to eat wisely between meals. There are a lot of benefits in eating low fat dairy foods and the foods are high in calcium.

If you are inclined to eat breakfast around 8am, then you should eat a mid morning snack around 10:30. This should pull you through to 1:00 pm, lunchtime. Your afternoon snack should be eaten around 3:30 and then you typically have dinner around 6pm. As you can see, you are eating something small every 2-½ hours, which gives you stamina and a clear mind with the ability to focus better because you are not hungry or too full.

As you are trying to lose weight, it is important that you snack. People who do not snack end up binging on unhealthy and unsatisfying foods at mealtimes because they waited too long to eat. Blood sugar levels get wacky, which causes other physical and emotional symptoms as well. Research has found that people who snack consume less calories throughout the course of a day than people who do not snack. So, if you are trying to lose weight, then snacking of course is your best option. You will also find yourself happier because your blood sugar levels are maintained and you can focus on what matters throughout the day instead of being swayed by a growling stomach all of the time.

Stay focused, feel better and lose weight. Healthy snacks for weight loss are out there, you just need to eat them.

Healthy diet snacks are good for your health and enable you to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In today's busy life, it often becomes difficult to eat healthy food throughout the day. People often opt for fast food whenever they feel hungry during a busy work day. Fast foods like chips, soft drinks, pizza, and so forth, are easy to grab during work and tasty, too. But indulging on junk foods for a long period doesn't only lead to weight gain and obesity, but may yield other serious health hazards, too. Various types of easily available fast foods may be tasty to eat, but they don't provide your body with the essential nutrients which are important for good health.

Choose healthy diet snacks that satisfy your hunger. They will supply your body with sufficient energy and important nutrients and at the same time will help you to maintain your weight.

o Opt for whole-grain snacks since they are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates. They are good for your health and provide you with energy and staying power. You can choose whole-grain crackers, whole-grain pretzels, and whole-grain crisp breads, which are high in fiber and low in fat.

o You can include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your healthy diet snack. Fruit salad or vegetable salad can be eaten as a healthy snack. Both fruits and vegetables are low in calorie, give you a fuller feeling and provide your body with vitamins, minerals, fiber and nutrients.

o Nuts and seeds are another good option for diet snacks. This type of food is a good source of protein. Nuts and seeds contain healthy mono-saturated fat and can make you feel fuller for a longer period of time. Be careful to eat nuts and seeds in moderate portions, as they are high in calories.

o Low-fat dairy products like buttermilk, yogurt, low-fat milk, and others are a good source of calcium, protein, vitamins and minerals.

o Popcorn can also be a good snack if you don't saturate it with butter and salt. Popcorn is high in fiber and low in calories. The best way to eat popcorn is to have it air popped without using butter.

o Peanut butter has lots of good nutritional quality and can be eaten as a diet snack. You can add a moderate portion of peanut butter to fruits, crackers or a smoothie. Don't be generous with peanut butter, though, as it high in calories.

o Fruit smoothies can be a wonderful meal replacement if you prepare them with many healthy food ingredients. You can make different types of smoothies containing a variety of fruits, protein, fiber and dairy all packed into one delicious serving.

If you want to reduce weight or are looking for some healthy diet snacks that you can eat to curb your hunger, then go food shopping. Make a list of food items that you can have in between your meals to avoid junk foods or over-eating. You can prepare some healthy diet snacks at home that you can carry to your workplace, or you can buy some ready made diet snacks that you can have whenever you feel the pang of hunger.

Best Fat Loss Snacks to Kill Hunger

Best Fat Loss Snacks to Kill Hunger

One of the best ways to have success with your weight loss diet plan is to come up with a variety of snack ideas that will help kill hunger and keep you satisfied throughout the course of the day. You don't need me to tell you that when you're hungry, you're going to be much more likely to cheat on your diet plan than when you're satisfied and not thinking strictly about food.

This is a big issue that a lot of people face however as many believe that they either have to eliminate snacks altogether or they don't understand the best fat loss snacks to be eating. Here are the main things to keep in mind when trying to come up with your own to add to your daily fat loss menu.

Higher Protein Content
The very first thing you must be sure you're doing to make the best fat loss snack is including more protein content. Protein is the macronutrient that will digest most slowly in the body so you'll get the best hunger killing benefits. All of your snacks should be focused around protein-rich foods, with the addition of either fat or carbohydrates. Aim to get about 15-20 grams of protein per snack if you can as this will be the ideal mix to help you reach your protein needs for the day with your weight loss diet plan.

Don't Avoid All Fat
Second, don't entirely shun fats. If you're having a snack with a higher carb content, then you may want to keep fat on the lower side to prevent the total calorie level from creeping up there. If you aren't adding many carbs though, then you want to add 50-100 calories worth of fat. Fat is the preferred macronutrient by many because it does tend to fill you up better than an equal amount of carbohydrates would. This does tend to be somewhat individual though, so play around and figure out what works best for your individual situation.

Include Vegetables
Finally, third tip to create the best weight loss snacks are to make sure you're also including some vegetables. Many people think vegetables can only be consumed in main meals and this just isn't the case. They are full of fiber, nutrients, and will help keep you satisfied for a long period of time. Aim to add one vegetable source to at least one of your snacks during the day and you'll be well on your way to meeting your required needs. So keep these points in mind. Creating the best fat loss snacks to help get you through your day could mean the difference between success and failure on your weight loss diet plan.

There are cereals, cookies, crackers, gelatin and pudding cups, popcorn and more items available that are already packaged to help you take the guesswork and temptation away from you. Or better yet, prepackage your own cereal and other items in little plastic baggies, which is more cost effective. It may take a little more time or be a little more costly, but worth it in the long run if it helps you to control your eating.
