If we are to believe the dairy industry, milk & weight loss go together like Christmas and candy. But is this claim fact or fiction? Glossy magazines everywhere display glamorous pictures of celebrities like Glenn Close, Sheryl Crow, Mariska Hargitay and Brooke Shields, looking seductive and gorgeous ... and all because of dairy products.
Scientific studies, like those reviewed in the prestigious journal, "Nutrition Reviews", suggest otherwise. After reviewing 49 research papers on the weight-milk connection Nutrition Reviews reports:
* 41 of the 49 studies indicated no relationship at all between dairy and weight loss ...
* Two analyses demonstrated that milk products and dairy consumption was linked with increased, rather than decreased, weight ...
* The other six established a correlation between dairy weight and loss ... but they were paid for by none other than The American Dairy Association ...
There are eight reasons to be concerned about America's love with dairy products:
1. Dairy products all contain lactose, a very concentrated sugar. Sugar and weight problems ... need we say more?
2. Lactose sugar is a tasty buffet to all parasites, mycotoxins, microforms and other nasties that thrive in our digestive system and gut, stop us us from proper digestion and steal the vitamins and minerals that ought to be utilized for dazzling health. The less efficient our digestion, the harder it is to lose weight - and keep it off.
3. Milk - and all animal products - are highly acidic. This creates acidic human lymph and blood, and the way the body protects its organs from this acid-bath is by surrounding each priceless organ with fat. Dr. Robert Young emphatically states that our fat is literally preserving our lives! The solution, clearly, is to remove the poisons from our bodies if we sincerely want to be skinny.
4. This problem is heightened when we eat "dairy products", instead of 'just' drinking milk, because it requires 10 pounds of milk to produce one pound of hard cheese, 12 pounds of milk to produce one pound of ice cream and 21 pounds of milk to make one pound of butter. If milk is acidic, imagine the toxic outcome of even more concentrated acids!
5. The plastic container of milk that you pick up at the grocery has been boiled at a temperature of 160 degrees centigrade. This massacres the vast majority of the enzymes in milk - the enzymes we must have for digestion. Care to guess where this undigested food and drink is stored? As fat on your body!
6. The Dairy Association suggestion "24:24", meaning three glasses, or 24 ounces of milk every day. That's 300 calories that could be used for food, which is more fulfilling to most dieters than drinking a beverage.
7. The romantic image of the satisfied cow grazing in the pasture is not today's reality. Instead, the cows are fed grains, chiefly soy beans, rather than grass. This results in about three times greater production than cows once gave. Unfortunately, the cows are no longer robust and can't live without antibiotics on a continual basis. These antibiotics, of course, are in their milk and a steady supply of antibiotics does nothing for either our wellness or our weight.
8. Did you know that cows' milk contains the blood and pus of these poor animals. Nice thought.
The belief that milk and weight loss are natural allies is merely propaganda. Cow's milk is wonderful all right - for baby cows. It won't help a human to lose weight and it is unquestionably detrimental to our bodies.
