Small Changes Can Yield Big Weight Loss Results
Most people think that in order to lose weight and keep it off they have to make huge transformations in their daily lives. But, the truth is small changes add up and are easier to live with long term.

Start by thinking about your weight loss and fitness goals. Do you have a lot of weight to lose or are you struggling with those pesky last 10-20 pounds? Regardless of where you are health and fitness wise, there are places in your life that can be effectively changed to help you shed pounds.

In order to lose weight you need to be consistent with your diet and exercise program. Choose a plan that you can live with and begin looking at extra time in your day that you can set aside to exercise. Make a contract with yourself that you seek out opportunities each and every day to exercise or to eat better.

For example, you could take a walk on your lunch break, you could stop taking the elevator or escalator at your job or in your apartment building, wake yourself up in the mornings with stretches and simple moves, or do your chores with more vigor. Think about all of your daily activities and start finding ways to make it an effective way to burn calories.

Plan ahead. Every Sunday evening sit down and go over your week ahead. Do you know you have events coming up that could challenge your weight loss efforts? Come up with a plan of action for that day, perhaps you will decide to eat before the party or event. Or if you are planning a cook out with friends find healthful recipes to bring along with you. If you know of a restaurant you will be eating at some time during the week, search for the menu online and find the best options for your diet.

Planning meal ideas for the week ahead can take the guess work out of last minute meals. Have a go-to list of meals that you can prepare with the ingredients that you have on hand. Know the nutritional information of the foods you keep in the house on a regular basis.

Designate one day of the week to allow junk food. Maybe you have a major sweet tooth or you worry that the junk food junkies will suffer with your new diet efforts. Instead, schedule one day a week that you prepare a favorite dessert for yourself and your friends or family. Instead of daily snacks and sweets, save these items for once a week and savor them in moderation. Don't let one guilty indulgence derail your weight loss goals. Simply, enjoy and then move on.

Find ways burn calories while relaxing or spending time with friends and family. So many times we only gather with the people in our lives over food and dessert. But, it doesn't have to be this way! Consider a group activity that will get everyone involved while helping you to burn calories. Think about group dancing, volleyball, badminton or any activity that will get your blood pumping. This could be a new tradition that will create lasting memories.

Never go hungry! Keep snacks on hand in your purse or car that will help you through those times when you need to eat something, but are pinched with time. Often times being stuck with hunger and little time could end up in the drive through, however if you have a nutritional bar or almonds on hand you could keep going until your next meal. If you must eat at a drive through opt for salads and grilled items. Skip the fries and excess cheese!
