3 Dieting Myths That are Killing Your Weight Loss Efforts!

3 Diet myths that make you gain weight!

There are a lot of dieting myths circulating the globe today and most of them are simply old myths that some people simply can't let go of for some reason.

The problem with dieting myths is that many of them are very widespread and since most people simply "follow the crowd" when it comes to fitness advice, there are now millions of people going in the wrong direction.

Why do you think the entire world is growing more and more overweight every single year?

In this article I'm going to give you 3 specific dieting myths that are killing your weight loss efforts. When you turn them around and start doing the right thing, you're virtually guaranteed to have more success!

So let's get started.

1) Eat Fat And You'll Get Fat - This common dieting myth says that if you eat fatty foods such as avocados, nuts, olive oil and eggs are horrible for you in terms of gaining weight. Well, there's also another side to the story.

First of all, weight loss happens when you consume less calories than you burn. So at the end of the day if you eat 2,000 calories but burn off 2,100 - you've lost weight. Also, if you choose the right fats (like I mentioned above) - they can actually help you lose weight!

2) Eating Late At Night Makes You Fat - This one is kind of a half-myth. The reason it's only half a dieting myth is simply because it's only eating carbohydrates at night that makes you fat. Your body goes on a 24 hour cycle - it doesn't stop when you sleep.

However, your body can't process carbs very well late at night because it knows your slowing down to get ready for bed so a higher percentage of carbs get turned into fat instead of fuel.

3) You Have To Eat 6 Meals Per Day - Woah, I didn't just say that, did i? Yes, I did! The whole 6 meals per day thing increasing your metabolism is one big fat myth. There is absolutely no evidence proving it. It's all about calories in versus calories out, no matter if you eat them in one sitting or in 20 sittings.

You have to experiment with your own life and see what works best for you. Some people do great eating once or twice a day, some people do better eating 5-6 times per day. Just try it and see!

There are a lot of dieting myths out there but I chose these 3 because I think they're the ones you need to watch out for the most. Especially eating 6 meals per day. Many people start gaining weight because they can't control their meal portions well enough and start overeating!

Stop following the mainstream crowd and you'll never have to worry about dieting myths again. Many times, you can simply do the opposite of what the average person does and you'll do great. But the most important thing is that you simply experiment and see what works best for you.

Weight loss Surgery - 7 Myths that Will Surprise You

Weight loss Surgery - 7 Myths that Will Surprise You!
Have you seen all the ads on TV for weight loss surgery? They certainly sound appealing, don't they? Tame that hunger! Rapid weight loss! But what's the real story? Here are seven myths about weight loss surgery that will truly surprise you.

Myth # 1: You Will Never Regain Your Weight

Untrue. In fact studies have shown that most weight loss surgery patients regain at least some of their weight. Weight loss surgery provides you with a tool that helps you to lose weight and maintain that weight loss. But the patient must eat a healthy diet and exercise for the rest of their lives in order to maintain that weight loss. True, it is much easier to accomplish that after surgery. However you can't take for granted that you will be thin forever without working at it.

Myth # 2: Weight Loss Surgery Is Becoming so Popular

Untrue. In the U.S., there are between 8 and 10 million morbidly obese people who qualify for weight loss surgery. Morbid obesity is determined by checking your Body Mass Index which is a computation between your height and your weight. Of the 8 to 10 million morbidly obese people, there are only between 1% and 2% of them who have weight loss surgery. In 2007 there were approximately 200,000 weight loss surgeries performed in the United States. In fact, weight loss surgery is a very rare procedure compared to millions who need it.

Myth # 3: You Will Have To Eat Tiny Meals Forever

Untrue. Just after surgery, your capacity to eat is very small. An ounce or two will fill you up. However, over time your capacity to eat more normal sized meals will increase so that what you are able to eat approximates what a normal weighted person would eat.

Myth #4: It's the Easy Way Out

Untrue. Weight loss surgery is not without its risks. The mortality rate is .5% to 1% and an additional 5% suffer complications. The complications vary from developing a possible abdominal leak so that what you eat enters your abdominal cavity (potentially lethal) to simple nausea. Many weight loss surgery patients lose up to 50% of their hair (which grows back) because of their inability to eat enough protein just after surgery. Most gastric bypass patients experience dumping syndrome which causes a sweating, shaking and nauseous reaction after eating something sweet. Some people outgrow this, others do not. There are many complications with this surgery making it anything but the easy way out.

Myth # 5: Weight Loss Surgery Will Save My Marriage

Untrue. In fact the divorce rate for weight loss surgery patients is higher than the national average. Often the spouse cannot take the new attention being paid to their partner who is looking better and better as the pounds melt away. On the flip side, the patient who is losing weight sometimes does not know how to handle all the new attention causing a strain on the marriage.

Myth # 6: My Body Will Look Great After I Have Lost Weight

Untrue. Most patients who lose more than 140 pounds are left with hanging skin requiring plastic surgery which is often not covered by insurance.

Myth #7: I Won't Be Able to Have Children after Surgery

Untrue. Patients should not get pregnant within the first year following surgery. During that initial time of rapid weight loss, they are not able to eat enough to sustain themselves as well as a growing fetus. However after the first year, there is no barrier to pregnancy. In fact, those patients have a much lower risk pregnancy because they are much healthier.

There are many misconceptions about weight loss surgery. Education is the key to knowing if the surgery is for you and to understanding the risks and benefits.

6 Myths About Getting Rid Of Belly Fat

6 Myths About Getting Rid Of Belly Fat
There are a wide variety of misguided beliefs going around about how to get rid of belly fat. The most effective way to lose the fat around your belly is to eat healthy and balanced diet and to do regular exercise. Here are 6 popular misconceptions that you'll hear about the excess fat around your waistline.

1. You Need To Starve Yourself.

Losing belly fat is not about not eating. Not eating won't help to slim your stomach or help your body in any way for that matter. You need a healthy and balanced diet. Never skip a meal and starving yourself will only harm you in the long run.

2. You Have To Give Up All Your Favorite Foods.

You can still enjoy your favorite foods in moderation and lose that fat around your waist. You will need to make changes to your diet and great way to balance healthy eating with your favourite foods is eat 80% of your calories from healthy foods and 20% of calories from other foods of your choice.

3. It Is Genetic.

The amount of fat that we have in our body is not completely due to the genes that we have inherited. While there are different body types that are determined by our genes, our body fat is due to two main factors. First, the food that we have been eating from the start of our life to where we are now and, second, the amount of movement or activity that we do on a regular basis.

4. You Can Take Supplements And Pills To Lose Belly Fat.

There are dietary supplements that can help you lose belly fat, but they won't help if you don't make other changes to your lifestyle. You have to look at all areas of your lifestyle, from the food you eat to the exercise that you do.

5. There Are No Real Health Risks With Belly Fat.

While being overweight in general can pose health problems, belly fat is particularly dangerous when it comes to keeping your body healthy. By decreasing your waistline, you can reduce your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Diabetes is a serious condition and it is the leading cause of blindness and a major cause of kidney disease.

6. Go On A Crash Diet.

Crash diets often severely restrict or forbid certain food groups. Not only will your body lose out on all the nutrients it needs and you will most likely put all the weight back on when you stop the crash diet. To lose belly fat and keep it off you need a long term way of eating that will enable to maintain your weight after you lose the excess fat.

Three Myths of Weight Loss

3 Myths of Weight Loss
First of all I would like to tell you that one of the worst myths in weight loss is that you will lose weight if you skip meals. That is false. If you do that, the only thing that will happen is that you will eat more for diner and chances are you will gain weight instead of losing some. Just remember to never skip a meal. You should eat small meals instead of skipping one.

The other myth I would like to discuss is that some people think you have to exercise everyday in order to lose weight. That's false again. In fact, to maintain a healthy life and lose weight you should exercise 3 to 4 times a week for 45 minutes. This is generally enough for common people.

Some people think that you can only eat vegetables or salad on a diet to lose weight. This could not be more wrong. Salad and vegetables are good food for you but if you only eat this your motivation will go down for sure. The best thing is to eat food that you like but small sized plates. The body is a great machine that will burn just about any kind of food you eat if you don't eat too much. In other words, you can eat pizza if you want and if you're reasonable. I suggest you eat fast food on weekends and eat well all week. This way you will be more motivated to make an effort all week knowing you will enjoy your weekend.

Myths About Metabolism - How To Increase Your Metabolism

Myths about metabolism abound and for every ridiculous diet there is a correspondingly ridiculous myth. The following is a list of the most prominent myths about metabolism. Whether misunderstanding, misconception or misinformation, not knowing the truth can cause you to waste time in your weight loss goals.

Here are some of the most common myths about metabolism:

MYTH - Your metabolism slows as you get older. TRUTH - It's not your metabolism that changes. It's that your habits change your metabolism. We do lose muscle mass as we age if we do not exercise regularly and pay attention to our diet. We also get more sedentary and burn fewer calories through activity. Giving some thought to our activity and the calories we consume, we can keep our metabolism turned up. In other words; you are not gaining weight because your metabolism has slowed, your metabolism is slowing because you increasing the ratio of fat to muscle.

MYTH - You inherit your metabolism and you can't do anything about it. Truth - Look closely at those people you see who "eat whatever they want and never gain weight". I used to have an uncle like that. The guy was always eating and rail-thin. But as I think back, it wasn't carbs and fat he always had in front of him, it was protein rich foods. He was also an active guy. He was kinda fidgety and always walking around the house and fixing this or that. In other words, he was burning calories. Building more muscle through activity allows you to change your metabolism.

MYTH - Certain foods increase your metabolism. Truth - Some foods, such as fiber rich foods, do require a little more energy to digest but they do not have a significant effect on metabolism. These foods are dense and contribute to weight loss in other ways.

MYTH - When I reduce calories my metabolism slows so why exercise. Truth - Yes, reducing calories can slow metabolism unless you make adjustments. Eating small meals throughout the day will keep your metabolism higher. Even modest activity increases metabolism and a consistent exercise program will greatly accelerate your weight loss goals. Here are some tips to turn your 'thermostat' up and get your metabolism working for you:

These are the facts to keep in mind when you are working to manage your metabolism:

  • You eat for fuel. Not all food is the same and the body uses different foods differently. Learn to make good choices. If it comes in a box or can or drive-through window you may need to rethink.
  • Do a minimum of 30 minutes a day of sustained activity. Walk, run, swim or ride your bike. Anything that makes you breath a little.
  • Build lean muscle mass by doing resistance, or weight training three days a week.
  • Look for the small things that ad up: park at the back of the lot, take the stairs, walk your kids to school, walk your dog, etc.
  • Never eat less than 1200 calories a day (1200 for women, 1500 for men) and eat throughout the day. Not eating enough or eating infrequently will slow metabolism.
  • Never skip breakfast. Eat within the first hour of waking. Sumo wrestlers skip breakfast because it add weight quickly.
  • Consider quality supplements to boost metabolism
  • Have a supply of protein-rich healthy snacks on hand to keep you away from fast food or junk food.

The very best way to get your arms around you metabolism is to have a body composition evaluation and a plan tailored to your body and habits. Seek an experienced wellness coach for the very best results.

Top 15 Weight Loss Myths!

Top 15 Weight Loss Myths

There are many common weight loss myths that people live by when it comes to their health. It is difficult at times to separate the weight loss myths and fact from what is true. Many sound true while others are just laughable. I once read somewhere that if you drink water at night that you are going to gain weight or that if you scratch your head too often you are going to lose your hair....

Weight Loss Myth # 1
The more weight that I have to lose the more intense my exercise routine should be

Weight Loss Truth: Although having an intense workout routine is great, there are a few things you should consider: the first being that everyone is at a different level when it comes to their fitness and how much intensity they can actually handle. If you have been physically inactive for a number of years, an intense work out for you might be, walking half a mile a day. After you walk that half mile you notice that you are sweating bullets and that you are tired. However, for someone who has been physically active for many years, walking half a mile can be done without a sweat. Everyone has a different definition of what "intense" is.

If intense for you is working out for an hour a day, but due to life's busy schedule you only have time for 20 minutes a day, then those 20 minutes will go an extremely long way. It might not necessarily be classified as "intense", according to your definition, but those little cardio moments will have positive health altering effects.

Fat Loss Myth # 2
Stress and weight gain do not go hand in hand

Weight Loss Fact: This is one of those "laughable" myths. To learn more how stress is adding lbs. to your life please download my free E-Book, "Psychology of Releasing Weight"

Weight Loss Myth # 3
I can lose weight while eating whatever I want

Weight Loss Truth: Sir Isaac Newton once said " What goes up must come down." There are natural principles that govern our lives. If you throw a ball up in the air, it is going to come back down. You can sit on your couch and imagine and visualize that the ball will staying afloat in the air, but natural principles teach us that it will come down. Same goes when it comes to our weight.

This is one of the most common weight loss myths out there. It is illogical to think that your health and weight are going to be in balance if your nutrition consists mainly of twinkies, chips, and donuts. Sure you can burn it off by exercising, but most people whose diet consists of mainly junk food are probably not disciplined enough to stick to a workout routine. I do know a few people who, from the outside, look like they are in good shape, because they are not "fat, but who have high cholesterol.

Just because I feel sorry for crushing the hearts of so many twinkie lovers out there, I would say this. You can eat junk food, cookies, chips, ice cream, pizza, burgers.... All of those "soul satisfying foods", but it should be in moderation. Anything in excess is never good.

Fat Loss Myth # 4
Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight

Weight Loss Fact: There are numerous studies that show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during the day tend to be a lot heavier than who have a healthy nutritional breakfast and then eat 4-6 small meals during the day. The reason to this might be the fact that they get hungrier later on in the day, and might have a tendency to over eat during other meals of the day.

Weight Loss Myth # 5
I will not lose weight while eating at night

Weight Loss Truth: You can over indulge in food during the day and not eat a single thing at night and you WILL gain weight. As is the fact that you can starve yourself during the day and eat all night long and you still will gain weight. The key here is balance. If your body is telling you that it is hungry then perhaps you should listen to it. The truth is, that over eating, while not exercising, will cause you to gain weight; no matter what time of the day that you eat. Whenever I am hungry at night, as is my habit with other meals during the day, I try to select something that is natural in nature. Something like fruits, vegetables, or I might even make myself a fruit smoothie. During those moments that I am craving ice cream or something sweet, I allow myself to get some, and DO NOT feel guilty about it. Many people who are overweight live their life in guilt and shame. I allow myself to get some, however, WITH MODERATION.

Fat Loss Myth # 6
I'm not acceptable until I lose weight

Weight Loss Fact: The person who doesn't feel acceptable because they are fat is because they are not acceptable to themselves first. The way that you think others view you is based on your view of yourself. I honestly believe that one must become emotionally fit before becoming physically fit. I have gone through these self-limiting emotions before. Once I realized that I was ALREADY ENOUGH in the eyes of God and that I had no need to prove myself to anyone or to receive external validation for my self-worth, that made all the difference for me. Once you accept yourself as who you are RIGHT NOW and realize that you are already enough in the eyes of God, you will not feel like you are not acceptable because of your weight.

Weight Loss Myth # 7
I need to cut calories to lose weight faster

Weight Loss Truth: Cutting your calories down might be a great thing, if you are drastically overeating and stuffing your face. However, if you are eating proportionally then cutting calories might have an aversive affect. If you are cutting calories and are starving your body, then that will lower your metabolism, or in other words slow it down, which may result in you actually not losing any weight at all, even if you are "cutting calories"

Fat Loss Myth # 8
Skipping meals will help me lose weight

Weight Loss Fact: Skipping meals may actually cause you to gain weight! You will become too hungry and will eventually have to eat. This will knock your metabolism off track and will eventually slow it down. Think of a car running low on gas (food), if you do not fill it up, it will eventually stop working. Same goes for our body, we need to keep it fueled constantly.

Weight Loss Myth # 9
I think I have genetic weight gain, it runs in my family!

Weight Loss Truth: Can someone say E-X-C-U-S-E-S? I will not deny that there might be tendencies for heavy parents to raise heavy children who will remain heavy their whole lives, but I don't believe that there is actually a "fat" gene or DNA out there. What we do inherit from our family, primarily those who directly raised us, are our views and beliefs. Your views about food, money, religion, politics, education, etc. are based upon how you were raised. If you were raised in a home where the primary meals cooked where fried foods, then you might have a tendency to continue cooking and eating fried foods throughout your life. If that is the case then you might be a little heavy around the waist. The easy thing to do is to blame it on those who were in charge of your upbringing, however, you ALWAYS have a choice to change.

Fat Loss Myth # 10
Eating healthy is too hard

Weight Loss Fact: Eating healthy is the simplest thing in the world.....once you have trained yourself to do it. How many times have you placed a goal to lose weight or to "eat better"? The first few days you are doing great, eating all kinds of foods which you normally wouldn't eat. Then something funny started to happen, you went back to your old habits and behaviors. This has happened to you in other areas outside of your health. It could be with making money, looking for a new job, or in your relationships. Creating a new habit takes time because our brain's do not like change. Change to the brain is dangerous. Anyways, if you would like to learn more about how our brain attempts to sabotage us from creating new habits then please download my free E-book, "Psychology of Releasing Weight"

Weight Loss Myth # 11
You have to give up your favorite foods to lose weight

Weight Loss Truth: What would a world without chocolate and without pepperoni pizza be like??? I think it would be a torturous world to live in!! lol, now on a real note I completely disagree with this myth. You are definitely able to eat your favorite foods. Depriving yourself of this kind of pleasure is not fun, and quite frankly you probably WILL eat it anyways. As has been mentioned before, the real key is moderation. If you are a steak lover, then perhaps it might not be the best things to eat it every single day, but perhaps once or twice a week. Those who know me personally know that I LOOOOOOOOVE chicken wings with pizza. In a perfect world where I wouldn't gain any weight and my arteries were clog-less, I would love to eat it several times per week, well more like every day. However, I know that those aren't the healthiest of food choices so I have it about 2-3 times per month. I am not giving up my favorite foods, I am just eating it in moderation so that it doesn't catch up to me in the form of excess weight.

Fat Loss Myth # 12
Overeating is caused by hunger

Weight Loss Fact: Nice try there. If only we could blame "hunger" for it. In fact, this person we call hunger has nothing to do with you OVEREATING. It might have something to do your body telling you that it is time to "fuel up" and that it needs food, but that is not an indication that one should overeat. What causes many people to overeat are different reasons. One of the main ones is feeling of stress, depression, loneliness, anxiety, fear, and other down grading emotions of that nature. Many times food can be a means of satisfying your needs. You might be actually getting your needs met through your foods. For example, if you live a lonely life, and aren't very happy, then food could perhaps be a means of you feeling happy and comforted. There are other articles that I have written on this subject but suffice it to say that overeating is NOT cause by being hungry.

Weight Loss Myth # 13
Only drastic diets work

Weight Loss Truth: There goes that word again...DIEt....those "drastic diets" are only good for quick weight loss and rapid weight gain once you get of it. These drastic diets range from the "cookie diet", lol.... All that way to "the water only diet"..... I am sure you can lose weight while on these DIEts, however the weight will be gained right back and usually with some added weight as a bonus

Fat Loss Myth # 14
I am too fat and too far down the road to begin

Weight Loss Fact: A long journey begins one step at a time. It is natural to expect instantaneous results and to even fear the road ahead of you; especially if you are extremely overweight. The secret here is to make SMALL incremental changes. Don't expect perfection because that will lead you to disappointment. You are never too far down the road to where you cannot see the sun's light......

Weight Loss Myth # 15
I can't do it, I have tried many times and have failed

Weight Loss Truth: The great Henry Ford once said "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't- you're right.'"......It is 90% mindset, and 10% actually getting off your butt and doing something about it. You fall down, you get back up.... you fall down again, you get back up again. If you have tried to lose weight in the past then it is time to keep trying. Discouragment is to losing weight as is a piece of fried chicken to a vegetarian......they DO NOT go hand in hand.
