Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss - What Healthy Snacks Are Available?

Healthy snacks for weight loss!

Everyone loves to snack and just because you are on a diet it doesn't mean that you have to forego your daily snacking routine. Instead you need to find out what the best healthy snacks for weight loss are.

One way to start incorporating healthy snacks into your diet is to switch your current snack for a low fat version. This would include finding low fat muffins, fat free cheese and eating whole fruits instead of juices.

Some other great healthy snacks for weight loss include:

• Veggies with hummus
• Sliced fruit with low fat yogurt
• A handful of walnuts or almonds
• Low fat cottage cheese
• Air popped popcorn
• Hard boiled eggs
• Baked tortilla chips
• Salsa
• Fruit shakes or smoothies

Just changing to a healthier version of your favorite snack can save you calories over the long run. Take cut up veggies to work, so you can munch on them during the day.

This is great, especially if your workplace includes plenty of cookies and muffins being passed around. A single serving of a low fat yogurt is another portable handy snack to make use of.

Snacking is actually beneficial for you; it prevents you from binging on foods by becoming too hungry. Snacks are also the perfect way to bridge the gap between meals. If you are unsure if a snack is healthy read the label first.

Try to choose a snack which is less than 100 calories, and has a low fat content. This way you are not wasting your valuable calories on unhealthy choices. Try to make good nutritional choices, and aim to have each calorie which you consume, provide your body with a healthy nutrient.

Your snacking choices will be reflected by your children. If you eat high calorie, fatty snacks, they will follow your lead. Teach your children at a young age to eat low fat, healthy choices. This way you are setting them up to understand how to make healthy choices, before they too have a weight issue.

Once you begin making healthy choices you will develop new ideas for snacks. Being creative with your food is one way to keep your diet interesting. Repeatedly eating the same foods will have you making inappropriate choices very quickly.

Try a few new snack ideas first and stay with the ones that satisfy your cravings and your hunger. Before you know it, you will have your own list of healthy snacks for weight loss at your fingertips.

Low Calorie Snacks You Can Try

It is a myth that snacking means piling on those calories. In fact, eating healthy, low calorie snacks can stop you from binging or getting food cravings. You can snack and keep those calories in check with these tips.

Strawberries coated in dark chocolate make a great low calorie snack. Fresh fruit is always a good idea and dark chocolate has anti-oxidant properties. To make this tasty treat, just dip a handful of strawberries in a tablespoon of melted dark chocolate.

Apples with peanut butter make a delicious combination. Just chop up an apple, top with a tablespoon of peanut butter and you have a great low calorie snack ready. Apples are loaded with fiber and peanut butter has both protein and healthy monosaturated fat.

For a quick healthy snack, try vegetable sticks with any dip of your choice. As vegetable sticks you could try celery, pepper, carrot or even florets of broccoli. For a truly low calorie dip, combine a packet of Knorr's vegetable soup mix with a cup of low fat yoghurt.

Did you know that popcorn can actually be healthy? When those hunger pangs set in, try a bag of low-fat popcorn minus the butter, of course! Every serving of popcorn actually contains 5 grams of fiber.

You can turn a tuna sandwich into a low calorie snack with just a few modifications. Substitute the bread for a whole wheat pita pocket. Leave out the mayo and try low fat yoghurt dressing instead.

For an unusual but tasty snack, spoon about half a cup of salsa and two tablespoons of non-fat sour cream on top of a small, baked potato. The potato provides the fiber while the salsa has vitamin C.

Freeze about half a cup of orange juice and eat it like a sorbet. This snack is simply loaded with vitamin C.

Non-fat cottage cheese with some fresh blueberries added to it makes a great snack idea. The cottage cheese contains protein and calcium and the fresh fruit adds in the vitamins.

Soy chips with salsa are a great way to pack in protein. Soy is a complete protein and contains amino acids that are vital for your body. Make sure the chips are baked and not fried.

The ultimate low calorie snack is of course a green salad made of fresh leafy vegetables. Leafy vegetables have minerals and vitamins A and C. A salad is also a good source for fiber.

So use your imagination and whip up interesting ways to keep healthy.

8 "Best" Bedtime Snacks For a Healthy Weight Loss

8 Best Bedtime Snacks for a Healthy Weight Loss
It is a known fact that snacking before going to sleep is probably the worst time to eat. However, there are ways to fight your cravings in a beneficial way. Did you know that there are types of foods that actually help you sleep without overloading your digestive system? Eating or combining 1 or 2 of the foods that I have listed below an hour before bedtime will actually help to relax tense muscles and stress due to their sleep-inducing hormones (melatonin and serotonin).

• Chamomile Tea: The perfect antidote for restless minds due to its mild sedating effect.

• Warm milk: Milk also has a sedative quality in it (tryptophan), and calcium which helps the brain use tryptophan. Also, psychologically, milk reminds us of our childhood, when a warm bottle of milk meant "everything is OK".

• Honey: Honey is sweet, sweet is sugar, and sugar is a stimulant, right? WRONG! A couple teaspoons of honey in a glass of warm milk or herbal tea actually helps your brain shut down a nerve called orexin, which is linked to alertness.

• Oatmeal: Oatmeal is not only filling and low fat, it is also filled with melatonin (a natural sedative). Add a touch of honey to your blend, and start counting sheep.

• Bananas: Bananas are the ultimate sedative. I like to call them "sleeping peels", not only do they contain melatonin AND serotonin, they ALSO contain magnesium (a muscle relaxant).

• Whole Wheat Bread: Eating toast in combination with any other sleeping foods, like honey or tea, will release insulin, which in turn will convert itself into serotonin.

• Turkey: Why is it that after a Thanksgiving meal, most of the family ends up on the couch? Well, turkey has a sleep inducing quality that works best on an empty stomach. Add a couple slices of whole wheat bread with mustard, and say goodnight!

• Almonds: A handful of almonds will knock you straight-out. They are filled with magnesium ( a muscle relaxant) and help convert tryptophan into serotonin.

Hopefully this article has given you clarity about what types of foods actually help induce sleep, and what you should look for in foods before going to sleep.

4 Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss That Are Delicious and Nutritious

4 Healthy Snacks for Weight Loss That Are Delicious and Nutritious
When you're on a weight loss journey or plan you don't need to eat rabbit food, anyone who says you do hasn't met me or my methods. This is especially true when it comes to healthy snacks. This article outlines some of my personal favourite healthy snacks for weight loss, all of these are nutritious, delicious and don't take much time to prepare at all.

1. Cheesecake in a bowl

This is a personal favourite of mine. Take a tub of quark, some mixed nuts, desiccated coconut and 2-3 squares of (at least 70%) dark chocolate. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave while crushing the nuts into a bowl. Mix the melted chocolate with the quark then pour into the bowl. Enjoy - this is divine.

2. Protein balls

These little balls of joy are delicious and so easy to make. All you need is some oats (not quick oats), protein powder and some peanut butter. Use about 75-100 grams of oats with 1 to 2 scoops of protein powder, mix in a bowl then add a little water to get the mixture going. Add in a table spoon or two of peanut butter and mix together. Add a little bit more peanut butter at a time until you get the consistency right. Mould into small meatball size balls and leave in the fridge or on your counter to set, depending on how you'd like them. Enjoy these little bundles of healthy fats, protein and complex carbs.

3. Oatmeal protein pancakes

Another favourite and can be batched made and stored for use at a later stage. Combine 90 grams of oats with 1 scoop of protein powder and four egg whites, mix together and then pour onto a non stick frying pan, then cook off like a traditional pancake. These are delicious and are a great post workout snack. Try them with cinnamon or frozen fruit if you want that little bit of extra in them.

4. Apple slices and peanut butter

It doesn't get any easier than this. Simply dice up your favourite variety of apple into slices and then use 1 to 2 tablespoons of peanut butter as a dip. This snack is high in healthy fat and protein as well as healthy carbs from the apple. A quick easy delicious snack you can make in less than a minute.

There you have, these are some of my top healthy snacks for weight loss that you can make in 5 minutes or less. The beauty about these healthy snacks is that you can tweak them to suit your own needs, likes and dislikes. Healthy snacks for weight loss need not be complicated, it's just important to get creative.
